ASSYST is seeking a highly experienced Lead Mainframe Developer to support our government client in Tallahassee, FL. The candidate will serve as a subject matter expert in financial systems development, leading cross-functional application projects and ensuring the delivery of robust, scalable solutions. This role involves system analysis, software development, process re-engineering, and mentorship within a complex enterprise environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead development efforts for financial applications involving complex business processes.
- Analyze existing business functions to identify efficiency and improvement opportunities.
- Support process redesign, system development, and testing in collaboration with business and technical teams.
- Provide hands-on coding and technical support across the SDLC—from development through to production.
- Act as a mentor and technical guide to peers and junior developers.
- Collaborate with QA teams to ensure high-quality software delivery.
- Utilize troubleshooting tools and techniques to identify and resolve issues.
- Drive standardization of processes, documentation, and methodologies across development teams.
- Stay updated on industry trends and apply best practices in software development.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 7+ years’ experience as a Lead Developer or Development Manager.
- 5+ years of experience with enterprise development technologies such as:
- COBOL
- CA Gen
- Classic ASP (VBScript, JScript)
- DB2 for z/OS or Oracle (or similar relational databases)
Technical Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong SQL skills and understanding of relational databases (DB2 for z/OS, Oracle).
- Proficiency in CA Gen (workstation toolset, web server, online/batch procedures, Com Proxy services).
- Experience with IBM Z-Server technologies including CICS, JCL, and COBOL.
- Classic ASP web development using VBScript and JScript.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Visual Studio and .NET is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience supporting and maintaining complex financial systems.
Preferred Education:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
