ASSYST is seeking an experienced Technical Writer to support our government customer based in Tallahassee, Florida.
Location: On-site in Tallahassee, Florida
Scope of Work:
- Serve as the principal line of communication for the project team.
- Develop, maintain, and update comprehensive technical, business, and user documentation for various IT projects, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and adherence to organizational standards.
- Create project documentation including project plans, business cases, requirements, user guides, manuals, and training materials.
- Collaborate with IT project managers, business analysts, and developers to gather project and technical information.
- Conduct interviews and research to understand project requirements and technical details.
- Review and edit documentation created by other team members.
- Ensure all documentation aligns with the Department’s PMO standards and Rule 60GG-1, Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.).
- Utilize documentation tools and software to create and manage content.
- Continuously update documentation as projects evolve.
Required Qualifications:
- Three (3) or more years of proven business or technical writing experience with working knowledge of multiple software and graphics packages.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong understanding of technical concepts and ability to translate them into user-friendly documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Experience preparing reports, documenting user stories, writing business IT system requirements, and facilitating meetings.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools.
- Effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in technical writing or related field.
- Knowledge of documentation standards and best practices.
- Experience with state or federal government IT projects.
- Familiarity with SDLC methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall).
- Experience with CMS, version control systems, and project management tools (e.g., JIRA, Trello, MS Project).
- Proficiency with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau), data analysis tools (SQL, Python, R, SAS), and ERP systems.
- Experience with graphic design tools for diagrams and visuals.
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles and practices.
- Experience conducting training sessions or workshops and creating multimedia content.
- Knowledge of UX design principles and IT standards in criminal justice environments.
- Ability to solve complex problems independently and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- High-energy, detail-oriented team player with strong organizational and prioritization skills in fast-paced environments.
Education:
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Technical Writing, Business Administration, or a related field is required. Equivalent work experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis where applicable.
