Senior Project Manager

ASSYST is seeking a Senior Project Manager to support a critical role in delivering the vital software applications and infrastructure that power the client’s educational system, in Austin, TX

The Senior Project Manager  will be responsible for leading Agile software development teams through the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), ensuring the on-time delivery of projects critical to fulfilling legislative requirements and agency strategic priorities. This role demands a strong leader with a proven track record in Agile project management, preferably within the education domain.

This position offers considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment. The Senior Project Manager will have the opportunity to oversee, direct, and evaluate the work of project staff and collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders, including agency leadership, other state agencies, and private sector partners.

Job Type: Contract (Corp to Corp/C2C to 1099)
Job Location: Austin TX (Fully Remote)

Responsibilities:
  • Leadership & Vision: Articulate a clear vision for the application and technology roadmap. Take ownership of problem management, issue resolution, and risk identification/mitigation. Lead efforts to optimize team performance and improve value delivery.
  • Process Consistency: Direct, develop, and evaluate the Agile processes used by project teams to ensure predictable delivery, minimize rework, and promote the efficient use of resources.
  • Deliverable Quality: Monitor and measure the quality of applications, identifying and championing opportunities for continuous improvement to guarantee the smooth operation of state services and maintain user trust.
  • Stakeholder Satisfaction: Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with management, product owners, project team members, and external partners to foster buy-in and ensure projects meet the needs of all stakeholders.
  • Strategic Execution: Coordinate the initiation and planning of diverse projects to meet strategic application and technology roadmap commitments, empowering your team to achieve extraordinary results that align with the agency's mission.
Minimum Requirements
  • 20 years of experience in Technology Project Management, with a specific focus on software development.
  • 8 years of experience as an Agile Coach and Leader.
  • 8 years of hands-on Software Development experience.
  • 8 years of experience as a Jira Project Administrator.
  • 8 years of experience working within a State Agency.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven project management experience within the education technology (EdTech) domain.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, CSM, SAFe).
