ASSYST is seeking an IT Business Data Analyst to support our government customer based in Austin, TX.
Position will be 2 days remote with 3 days (Mon, Tues & Thurs) required to be ONSITE at Austin, TX.
The Program will only allow candidates who are LOCAL TO THE AUSTIN AREA ONLY (Within 50-mile radius).
The IT Business Data Analyst will focus on analyzing business objectives, user requirements, and current processes to identify problems, assess alternatives, and recommend solutions. The role will document business needs, system capabilities, and data flows, translating them into clear, actionable requirements for development and QA teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Understand business objectives and problems, identify alternative solutions, and perform cost/benefit analysis.
- Analyze user requirements, operational procedures, and problems to automate processing or improve existing systems.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, and technical teams to align business objectives with system capabilities.
- Elicit, document, and translate complex business needs into Epics, User Stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Write detailed descriptions of user needs, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify systems.
- Review system capabilities, specifications, and scheduling limitations to determine feasibility.
- Document current state processes and proactively identify opportunities for improvement.
- Facilitate workshops, lead interviews, and present findings to diverse audiences.
- Design and present data models, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate insights and project progress.
Required Experience:
- Hands-on experience as a business data analyst in the IT industry with strong analytical and documentation skills.
- Proven ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical teams to analyze complex data-driven problems and recommend solutions.
- Experience designing and optimizing data workflows and management processes using modeling or mapping tools.
- Skilled in writing Epics and User Stories with acceptance criteria to capture functional and non-functional requirements.
- Experience creating and maintaining data documentation (data dictionaries, business requirement documents, data mapping specifications).
- Demonstrated ability to lead data-focused meetings, document outcomes, and resolve data-related issues.
Preferred Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Strong multi-tasking skills with ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Working knowledge of eligibility rules for SNAP, Medicaid, and TANF programs, with experience interpreting and applying state and federal guidelines.
- Experience applying policy within an integrated eligibility case management system.
