ASSYST is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to lead the design and optimization for our upcoming data infrastructure project with our federal client in Sterling, VA
The candidate will be responsible for building robust data pipelines, managing large-scale data warehouses, and mentoring junior engineers to ensure the delivery of high-quality, scalable data solutions.
Please Note: Due to federal contract requirements, this position is restricted to U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents.

Technical Requirements
- 3–5+ years in data engineering or backend data systems
- Experience leading data pipeline projects and mentoring junior engineers
- Proficient in building and optimizing ETL/ELT pipelines using Apache Airflow, Spark, dbt, Kafka, Databricks, or Flink
- Strong skills in SQL, Python or Scala
- Experience working with data warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift
- Knowledge of data lakes including Delta Lake and Lakehouse architecture
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Experience with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) and orchestration tools
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD and data versioning (e.g., DVC)
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Commitment to code quality, documentation, and agile practices
- Experience with real-time data processing
- Knowledge of cataloging and data governance practices
- Understanding of privacy/compliance standards such as GDPR and HIPAA
- Experience collaborating with analytics, machine learning, or business intelligence teams
