Lead Broadband Technician

ASSYST is seeking a highly skilled Lead Broadband Technician to provide technical support for our client a local County Government in Rockville, MD to support their broadband initiatives. The selected candidate will be responsible for residential internet installations, troubleshooting network equipment, maintaining low-voltage cabling, and supporting County's network operations. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with network technologies, low-voltage infrastructure, and the County’s FiberNet network.

Job Title: Lead Broadband Technician
Location: Rockville, MD (Travel required within the County)
Job Type: Contract

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, terminate, and test low-voltage cabling (UTP, coax).
  • Install and maintain Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) at various sites.
  • Troubleshoot Wi-Fi services, devices, and routers.
  • Conduct network performance and reachability tests.
  • Perform residential internet service installations, including connecting and configuring devices such as desktops, tablets, smart TVs, and smartphones.
  • Educate customers on using installed equipment and services to ensure satisfaction and long-term success.
  • Support and diagnose network devices (routers, switches, access points, and host adapters).
  • Provide assistance to the Network Operations Center (NOC) and Network Engineering staff as needed.
  • Provision and configure Wi-Fi routers/devices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve low-voltage cabling issues using tools such as cable testers and ID toners.
  • Track, organize, and optimize network infrastructure inventory and assist with procurement of equipment.
  • Maintain proactive communication with customers via phone, email, and face-to-face meetings.
  • Respond promptly to electronic communications, including emails, SMS texts, and phone calls.
  • Document work performed, including creating network drawings, photographs, and as-built documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Technical Skills & Experience

    • Familiarity with software such as Monday.com, SolarWinds, Microsoft Office, and ServiceNow.
    • Knowledge of TCP/IP and wireless networking technologies, including routers and access points.
    • Experience installing, terminating, and testing low-voltage cabling (UTP, coax).
    • Basic understanding of IT and networking protocols.
    • Hands-on experience with Network Management Systems (preferred).
  • Physical Requirements & Travel

    • Must have personal vehicle, valid driver’s license, and ability to drive to job sites within Montgomery County.
    • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
    • Must be comfortable working at residential and public locations.
